Thigh Lift / Leg Lift Surgery
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess skin and recontour the inner thigh area.
It is commonly indicated in patients with significant weight loss, age-related skin laxity or persistent skin folds
that do not improve with exercise. The aim is to achieve firmer, smoother and more proportionate thighs while maintaining functional comfort.
Indications and Patient Evaluation
During the pre-operative assessment, several factors are examined:
- Degree of excess skin
- Fat distribution and soft-tissue quality
- Skin elasticity
- Existing scars or asymmetries
- Need for additional procedures such as liposuction
In many cases, combining liposuction with a thigh lift enhances contour and provides a more natural transition
between the thigh and neighbouring areas.
Surgical Techniques
Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia in a hospital setting. Depending on the patient’s anatomy
and the extent of excess skin, different techniques may be used:
1. Groin (Inguinal) Thigh Lift
Incision placed within the groin crease and suitable for mild to moderate laxity.
2. Vertical Thigh Lift
Indicated for more pronounced excess skin extending along the inner thigh.
3. Combined Thigh Lift
Used when both vertical and horizontal tightening are required.
The operation typically lasts 1–2 hours. At the end of the procedure, the surgical area is closed with sutures,
and a compression garment is applied to reduce swelling and support early healing.
Post-Operative Recovery
Common early findings include swelling, bruising and tension in the inner thigh region. Light walking is recommended
shortly after surgery to promote circulation. A compression garment is usually required for several weeks.
Most individuals with desk-based work can return within 1–2 weeks, while physically demanding activities
should be postponed until medically approved. Although incisions are designed to remain hidden beneath underwear,
thigh lift scars are permanent and their appearance varies according to individual healing.
Patients Coming From Outside Istanbul
The clinic of Op. Dr. Gökhan Beyhan, located in the Etiler–Levent area of Istanbul, provides an organised and medically
supervised process for patients travelling from outside the city for thigh lift surgery.
Pre-Arrival Planning
A remote pre-operative assessment is performed based on medical history, photographs and relevant details.
This allows the surgical plan to be prepared in advance and ensures that the patient is medically suitable for the procedure.
Assessment on Arrival
Upon arriving in Istanbul, an in-person clinical examination is performed. Pre-operative blood tests and anaesthesia
evaluations are completed the same day. The surgical technique, incision placement, expected results and
post-operative instructions are reviewed in detail.
Time Required in Istanbul
Patients travelling from outside Istanbul typically stay for approximately five days, which includes:
- Consultation
- Surgical procedure
- Early post-operative monitoring
The clinical team reviews wound condition, swelling, mobility and pain control during the first days.
A compression garment is applied after surgery and remains necessary for the following weeks.
Follow-Up Before Departure
Before returning home, patients receive a final clinical evaluation. Detailed written instructions regarding
wound care, activity restrictions, compression garment usage and follow-up timing are provided.
After leaving Istanbul, follow-up consultations can be conducted online for continuity of care.
