Light filler uses micro-injected hyaluronic acid to restore radiance, hydration and a natural glow from within — without adding volume. From €150. Istanbul.
A light filler is a medical aesthetic treatment in which concentrated hyaluronic acid is micro-injected into the mid and deep layers of the skin to restore natural radiance, hydration and luminosity. The name comes from the visible glow the skin takes on after treatment: a lit-from-within quality that no topical product can replicate.
Unlike traditional dermal fillers, a light filler is not designed to add volume or reshape contours. Its purpose is to improve skin quality at a structural level. Fine lines soften, skin tone evens out, and the dull, fatigued appearance that accumulates over time gives way to a visibly refreshed complexion.
In my practice I customise each light filler session with different hyaluronic acid formulations — selecting the concentration, cross-linking profile and injection depth according to each patient's skin condition and goals.
Hyaluronic acid is one of the skin's own natural moisturising molecules. Each molecule can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, which is why injectable HA is so effective at restoring deep hydration.
When a light filler is placed into the dermis through precise micro-injections, it creates a reservoir of moisture that plumps the skin from within, stimulates fibroblast activity and supports new collagen synthesis. The result is not the "filled" look of a volumising filler but rather a genuine improvement in skin texture, tone and resilience.
The treatment takes approximately 15–20 minutes. There is no downtime — most patients return to their daily routine immediately. A course of 2–3 sessions, spaced 2–4 weeks apart, is usually recommended for optimal results. The effect typically lasts 3–6 months, after which maintenance sessions can sustain the improvement.
Although the under-eye area is by far the most popular treatment zone, light fillers can be used across several areas of the face and neck.
Under-eye area (tear trough): This is the signature application. Hollowing, dark circles and a tired, shadowed appearance beneath the eyes respond exceptionally well to light filler. Carefully placed hyaluronic acid adds subtle volume to the tear trough, reduces the dark cast caused by thin skin over the orbicularis muscle, and creates a brighter, more rested look. Because the periorbital skin is extremely thin, I use the finest-gauge cannulas and the softest available formulations to minimise bruising and avoid the Tyndall effect.
Cheeks and mid-face: Mild volume loss and early skin dullness in the cheek area can be addressed with a light filler to restore a healthy, youthful glow without the structural change of a deeper cheek filler.
Perioral area: The fine vertical lines around the lips (smoker's lines) and the skin of the upper lip itself can benefit from a light filler, which hydrates and smooths without altering lip shape.
Neck and décolletage: Crepey, dehydrated skin on the neck and chest responds well to superficial HA micro-injections, improving texture and luminosity.
Forehead and temples: In patients with visibly dry, dull or crepe-textured skin in these areas, light filler sessions can restore a smoother, more even surface.
Several hyaluronic acid formulations are specifically designed for skin-quality improvement rather than volumisation. In my practice I select from among the following depending on the treatment area and the patient's needs:
Teoxane Redensity 2: A purpose-built under-eye filler containing hyaluronic acid combined with a dermo-restructuring complex of amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It is widely regarded as the gold standard for tear-trough treatment.
Belotero Revive / Balance: Belotero's cohesive polydensified matrix technology integrates smoothly into tissue, making it well suited for delicate areas. Revive is formulated specifically for skin hydration and fine lines.
Juvederm Volite: An HA product designed exclusively for skin quality improvement, with clinical evidence supporting hydration, elasticity and smoothness lasting up to nine months after a single session.
Profhilo: Although technically a bioremodelling product rather than a filler, Profhilo's high-concentration HA (64 mg in 2 ml) delivered at five bio-aesthetic points provides deep hydration and stimulates collagen and elastin production. It complements light filler protocols well.
The choice of product matters — each formulation has a different HA concentration, cross-linking degree and rheological profile. Selecting the right one for the right layer and the right patient is what separates a natural result from a suboptimal one.
A light filler is suitable for a wide range of patients:
Individuals with dull, tired-looking skin that no longer responds to topical skincare alone. Patients in their late 20s to early 40s seeking preventive skin-quality maintenance. Those with under-eye hollowing, dark circles or a shadowed appearance beneath the eyes. Patients with early fine lines, mild crepiness or uneven skin tone. Anyone looking for a natural, no-downtime treatment to refresh their appearance before an event or as part of an ongoing aesthetic programme.
Light filler is not the right choice for patients who need significant volume restoration (a structural filler is more appropriate), those with active skin infections in the treatment area, or patients with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid.
Mild redness, pinpoint swelling or very slight bruising at the injection sites is normal and typically resolves within 24–48 hours. There are a few simple precautions I ask patients to follow:
Avoid applying makeup for 24 hours after the procedure. Do not rub or apply pressure to the treated area for the first few days. Stay away from saunas, steam rooms and very hot environments for 2–3 days. Stay well hydrated and maintain a balanced diet to support the skin's response.
Results become progressively more visible over the first 1–2 weeks as the hyaluronic acid integrates with the surrounding tissue and draws water into the dermis. The full effect — smoother texture, improved luminosity, reduced fine lines — is typically apparent after the second session.
It is important to understand that a light filler and a volumising filler serve fundamentally different purposes:
A traditional dermal filler (such as Juvederm Voluma or Radiesse) is designed to add volume, lift tissue and reshape facial contours. It uses a thicker, more highly cross-linked gel that provides structural support.
A light filler uses a thinner, less viscous hyaluronic acid formulation — often with minimal or no cross-linking — that spreads through the dermis to hydrate, brighten and improve skin quality from within. It does not add visible volume.
In practice, the two approaches complement each other beautifully. A patient may receive a structural filler in the cheeks or jawline for volume and definition, and a light filler across the under-eye area, forehead and neck for overall skin-quality enhancement.
Is a light filler the same as mesotherapy? No. Although both involve micro-injections, mesotherapy typically uses vitamin and peptide cocktails in very superficial layers, while a light filler places hyaluronic acid deeper in the dermis for more substantial hydration and structural improvement. The results of a light filler tend to be more visible and longer-lasting.
How long does a light filler session take?Approximately 15–20 minutes, including the application of topical anaesthetic cream.
Is the procedure painful? Most patients describe only mild discomfort. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied before the procedure, and many light filler products contain built-in lidocaine for additional comfort.
How many sessions do I need? For most patients I recommend an initial course of 2–3 sessions at 2–4 week intervals, followed by maintenance sessions every 4–6 months.
How long do results last?Typically 3–6 months, depending on the product used, the treatment area and individual skin characteristics. Under-eye applications with products like Redensity 2 may last up to 9–12 months.
Can I combine a light filler with other treatments?Absolutely. Light filler works well alongside botulinum toxin, biostimulators (Radiesse, Sculptra), Profhilo and medical-grade skincare protocols. I often incorporate it into comprehensive facial rejuvenation plans.
Are there any risks? When performed by an experienced physician using appropriate products and techniques, a light filler is a very safe procedure. The most common side effects are temporary redness, mild swelling and occasional bruising. Rare complications include the Tyndall effect (a bluish discolouration if the product is placed too superficially) and, very rarely, vascular occlusion — which is why anatomical expertise and careful injection technique are essential.
Light filler treatments at my practice in Etiler/Levent, Istanbul start from €150 per session. The final cost depends on the product selected (Redensity 2, Belotero, Volite, Profhilo), the number of areas treated and the volume of product required. A full course of 2–3 sessions for the under-eye area typically ranges from €300 to €450.
Compared to Western European pricing — where a single under-eye light filler session often exceeds €400–600 — Istanbul offers the same products, applied by board-certified specialists, at a fraction of the cost. This is one of the reasons the treatment is increasingly popular among international patients visiting Istanbul for medical aesthetics.
During your consultation I will recommend the most suitable product and treatment plan, and provide a clear, all-inclusive quote before any procedure.
A light filler is one of the most elegant treatments in modern medical aesthetics — subtle, quick and remarkably effective at restoring the quality and radiance that skin loses over time. It is not about changing how you look but about letting your skin look like the best version of itself.
In my practice I approach every light filler treatment as a personalised intervention, selecting the right product, the right depth and the right technique for each patient's unique skin. If you would like to explore whether a light filler is right for you, I invite you to get in touch.
