Nasal Filling | Op. Dr. Gökhan Beyhan — Etiler/Levent, İstanbul

Non-surgical nose shaping — bump correction, tip lifting and asymmetry removal.

If a small bump on your nose, a slight asymmetry or a profile with the tip down bothers you, you may not need to go to the operating room for this. Nasal filling — medically called non-surgical rhinoplasty — is a medical aesthetic procedure that corrects the shape of the nose with hyaluronic acid-based filler, which is completed in 15—20 minutes and gives immediate results. Rather than being an alternative to surgical rhinoplasty, it is a practical solution that does not require surgery in the right group of patients.

What Can Be Fixed With Nasal Filler?

Nasal filling can't do “everything” — but it is surprisingly effective in the right indication. The fixes that I apply most often in my clinic are:

  • Lumps in the back (hump) — Creating a flat profile by camouflaging the bone or cartilage protrusion on the back of the nose. The line is leveled by placing padding above and below the bump
  • Low nose tip — Raising the tip slightly up, giving it a more uplifted and lively profile
  • Correction of asymmetry — Balancing right-left differences in the back or tip of the nose
  • Narrow nose back — Slightly widen the back of the thin nose, making it more in line with the proportions of the face
  • Post-rhinoplasty correction — Elimination of minor irregularities remaining after previous nose surgery
  • Radix (root of the nose) collapse — Achieve a smoother profile line by increasing the depth of the nose root between the eyes

What Can't a Nose Filler Do?

It is important to be transparent: the nasal filling can do insertion but not removal. Surgical rhinoplasty is a more suitable option if:

  • If the nose is noticeably large and reduction is required
  • If there is severe structural deformity (pronounced curvature, septum deviation)
  • If the tip of the nose is too thick or broad-skinned
  • If the breathing problem needs to be solved

Whether the nasal filling during the examination is enough for you or whether surgery is more appropriate, we evaluate it together. Since I can apply both methods, I am able to make an unbiased assessment.

Why Do I Use Hyaluronic Acid?

Nasal filling is an application to one of the most vascular sensitive areas of the face. Therefore, safety comes before everything in the choice of products.

Recyclability: HA fillers can be completely dissolved by hyaluronidase. In the event of any complications — especially suspected vascular occlusion — immediate intervention can be done. This is a critical safety advantage that permanent fillers or CaHA-based products cannot offer.

Predictability: We know how much volume the HA will give, how to sit and when to absorb. This control is indispensable in nasal applications that require millimeter-level precision.

For nasal filling in my clinic, I prefer high-viscosity, form-preserving HA fillers. These products remain in the place where they are placed, do not spread and clearly define the structural contours of the nose.

How is the transaction carried out?

Nasal filling is one of the applications that requires the most precision among medical aesthetic procedures. The nasal region has a rich network of vessels, so knowledge of anatomy and technical experience are critical here.

Rating: Before the procedure, I evaluate your nose from the front, side and bottom. I mark the areas that want to be corrected, I plan where the filler will be placed.

Anesthesia: Topical anesthetic cream is applied to the back of the nose. If necessary, local anesthesia can be added to the tip of the nose.

Injection: The filling is placed with a very thin needle on the periosteum (at the level of the bone membrane) or on the cartilage, in small quantities and slowly. After each injection, the result is checked and fine-tuned if necessary.

Duration: Total transaction 15—20 minutes. The result is visible immediately.

Post Process

The recovery process after nasal filling is quite comfortable:

  • May have slight swelling and tenderness; usually regress in 1—3 days
  • Bruising is rare
  • Do not put pressure on the nose for the first 24 hours, do not wear glasses
  • Avoid intense exercise and sauna for the first 48 hours
  • Do not rub or massage the nose
  • The final result is with a complete descent of the swelling 5—7 days becomes clear in

permanence

Nasal filling persistence is average 12—18 months. Since the nose area is a relatively low-moving area of the face, the filler stays here longer than in other areas.

I do a control evaluation within 2—3 weeks after the first application. If necessary, we can optimize the result with a small touch up. Maintenance sessions are scheduled approximately 12—15 months apart; in each session, less product is usually sufficient than the first.

Safety and Risks

Nasal filling is a safe procedure but not zero risk. The most important risk is vascular occlusion — in the event that the filler clogs a vessel. For the management of this risk:

  • Anatomy information: Detailed knowledge of nasal vascular anatomy acquired by plastic surgery formation
  • The right product: I only use HA based, meltable fillers
  • Aspiration test: I make sure I'm not in the vein before the injection
  • Slow injection: With small amounts, controlled application
  • Hyaluronidase preparation: My clinic always has the melting enzyme ready

With these measures, the risk of complications is extremely low.

Who is Nose Filler Suitable for?

  • People who want to correct small bumps on the back of the nose
  • Those who want to slightly remove the low tip of the nose
  • Those who want to balance the asymmetry of the nose
  • Those who have previously undergone rhinoplasty and need minor corrections
  • Those who do not want surgical intervention or want to “try” before deciding on surgery

To whom is it not applicable?

  • Patients during pregnancy and lactation
  • Those who have an active infection or skin disease in the nose area
  • Patients who have previously had permanent nasal fillings (due to high risk)
  • Those with severe structural deformity or breathing problems (requires surgical rhinoplasty)

The Next Step

I do a face to face examination to assess the current structure of your nose and determine if the filling is right for you. The preliminary interview is free of charge.
